Tour Overview
The 7-Day Rongai Route is the only Kilimanjaro route that approaches the mountain from the northern side, near the Kenyan border. Known for its remote wilderness, gentle ascent profile, and relatively low rainfall, the Rongai Route is an excellent choice for climbers seeking a quieter trekking experience with excellent acclimatization opportunities.
This route traverses diverse landscapes, including pine forests, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and the arctic summit zone. The 7-day itinerary includes an additional acclimatization day, significantly increasing summit success rates while allowing climbers to enjoy the mountain's unique northern wilderness.
Unlike other routes, Rongai offers a different perspective of Kilimanjaro, with spectacular views of the Kenyan plains and a peaceful atmosphere away from the busier southern trails. The descent follows the scenic Marangu Route, providing climbers with the opportunity to experience two distinct sides of the mountain.
Perfect for those seeking a less crowded, gradual, and highly successful route to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa.
