At Kili Legends and Safaris, Mount Kilimanjaro is more than a destination it is our home, our heritage, and our lifelong passion. Our story began long before the company was established, rooted in decades of firsthand experience on the slopes of Africa’s highest mountain.
Since 2004, our team has been actively involved in Kilimanjaro expeditions, working in essential mountain roles including porters, cooks, assistant guides, and head guides. Through years of hands-on experience, we have gained an intimate understanding of the mountain’s diverse ecosystems, changing weather conditions, trekking routes, altitude challenges, and the physical and emotional journey that every climber experiences.
This deep local knowledge has enabled us to help thousands of trekkers from around the world safely pursue their dream of standing on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Every climb has strengthened our expertise and reinforced our commitment to delivering exceptional mountain experiences built on safety, professionalism, and genuine Tanzanian hospitality.

Meet Our Founder:
Antipas Matto
Kili Legends and Safaris is proudly led by Antipas Matto, a dedicated mountain professional whose life has been closely connected to Mount Kilimanjaro from the very beginning.
Born and raised in Marangu Village, located on the eastern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro near the famous Marangu Gate entrance, Antipas grew up at an elevation of approximately 1,900 meters above sea level. From an early age, Kilimanjaro was a constant presence in his life. Every morning he woke to views of the mountain, and every evening he watched its summit disappear into the clouds. These daily experiences inspired a deep connection with the mountain and a lifelong dream of helping others experience its beauty.
Antipas began his mountain career in 1997 as a porter, carrying equipment and supplies for climbers. Through hard work, determination, and continuous learning, he progressed through the ranks and became a professional head guide in 2003.
Over the years, Antipas worked with several respected tour operators in both Moshi and Arusha, guiding climbers from all over the world to the summit of Kilimanjaro. These experiences allowed him to develop exceptional mountain leadership skills while gaining valuable insights into international tourism and customer service.
Driven by a vision to provide authentic local experiences and create opportunities for his community, Antipas eventually founded Kili Legends and Safaris.
For Antipas, guiding is far more than a profession—it is a passion and a calling. He finds great fulfillment in helping travelers achieve one of the most significant accomplishments of their lives: reaching the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Today, his leadership continues to inspire the entire Kili Legends team, ensuring that every client receives expert guidance, personal attention, and an unforgettable adventure.
