Tour Overview
The 8-Day Lemosho Route is widely considered the premier route on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering the perfect combination of breathtaking scenery, excellent acclimatization, and a high summit success rate. Starting on the remote western side of the mountain, the route crosses diverse ecological zones, including lush rainforest, heath and moorland, alpine desert, and the arctic summit region.
The additional acclimatization day makes this route ideal for climbers who want to maximize their chances of reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. With fewer crowds during the early stages and spectacular panoramic views throughout the trek, the 8-Day Lemosho Route provides an unforgettable Kilimanjaro experience
Why Choose the 8-Day Lemosho Route?
Excellent Acclimatization
The extra day on the mountain allows your body more time to adapt to increasing altitude, significantly reducing the risk of altitude sickness and
improving overall comfort during the climb.
Highest Summit Success Rate
Among all Kilimanjaro routes, the 8-Day Lemosho Route consistently achieves one of the highest summit success rates due to its gradual ascent profile
and superior acclimatization schedule.
Incredible Scenic Diversity
Experience every major ecological zone of Kilimanjaro, from dense rainforest and the expansive Shira Plateau to the dramatic Barranco Wall, alpine deserts,
and the glaciers surrounding the summit.
Less Crowded Beginning
The western approach offers a quieter and more remote trekking experience during the first few days compared to other routes.

Our experienced guides, cooks, and porters are dedicated to ensuring your safety, comfort, and success throughout your Kilimanjaro adventure.
8-Day Lemosho Route Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening, meet your professional mountain guide for a comprehensive climb briefing, equipment inspection, and final preparations for your Kilimanjaro adventure. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions, ensure all gear is ready, and get a good night's rest before the trek begins.
Accommodation: Hotel in Moshi
Day 1: Hotel – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp
After breakfast, depart Moshi and drive to Londorossi Gate for registration and permit formalities. From the gate, continue by 4WD vehicle through the lush rainforest to the Lemosho trailhead. Your trek begins with a gentle walk through the dense montane forest, home to a variety of wildlife, colorful birds, and colobus monkeys. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp), where you will enjoy your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Today's trek gradually leaves the rainforest behind and enters the heath and moorland zone. As the vegetation becomes more sparse, stunning views of Kibo Peak begin to emerge. Crossing several ridges and valleys, you'll eventually reach the edge of the vast Shira Plateau.
Arrive at Shira 1 Camp, situated on the western edge of the plateau with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
This shorter day is designed specifically for acclimatization. Trek across the expansive Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on Earth, while enjoying magnificent views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding wilderness.
The gradual ascent allows your body additional time to adjust to altitude before continuing higher. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower
This is one of the most important acclimatization days of the trek. Ascend gradually toward Lava Tower (4,650m), a dramatic volcanic rock formation known as the "Shark's Tooth."
After spending time at higher altitude, descend to Barranco Camp, following the "climb high, sleep low" principle that greatly improves acclimatization. Barranco Camp sits beneath the impressive Barranco Wall and offers spectacular views of the mountain's southern glaciers.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep in appearance, the ascent is non-technical and provides some of the most rewarding views on the mountain.
After reaching the top, continue through rolling alpine terrain and descend into Karanga Valley before making a final short climb to Karanga Camp.
The shorter hiking day allows for further acclimatization and rest before the final ascent.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Continue your gradual ascent through a stark alpine desert landscape toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt.
Upon arrival, enjoy lunch, relax, and prepare your equipment for summit night. Following an early dinner, your guides will provide a detailed briefing before you rest for a few hours ahead of the midnight ascent.
Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp
Around midnight, begin the final ascent to the summit. Trek slowly through the darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim, passing between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. This is the most demanding stage of the climb, both physically and mentally.
Upon reaching Stella Point, enjoy a short rest before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Witness a breathtaking sunrise and celebrate your incredible achievement at the Roof of Africa.
After taking photos and enjoying the moment, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
After breakfast, enjoy your final descent through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Upon arrival, receive your well-earned summit certificate and celebrate your achievement with your mountain crew.
Your driver will be waiting at Mweka Gate to transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi, where a hot shower and comfortable bed await.
