The hike begins at Marangu Gate, the main entrance to Kilimanjaro National Park, and follows a well-maintained trail through the lush montane rainforest. After approximately 3 to 4 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Mandara Hut (2,720 m / 8,924 ft), the first overnight camp on the Marangu Route. After a well-deserved lunch, you can take a short walk to the nearby Maundi Crater, which offers spectacular panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, northern Tanzania, and neighboring Kenya on clear days.
Following your visit, you'll descend back through the rainforest to Marangu Gate before returning to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.

Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. After a scenic drive to Marangu Gate, you'll complete the park registration before starting your hike through Kilimanjaro's beautiful rainforest.
The trail gradually ascends beneath a canopy of giant trees, where you'll enjoy fresh mountain air and have opportunities to spot monkeys, exotic birds, and unique plant life.
Upon reaching Mandara Hut, enjoy a delicious packed lunch before taking an optional short walk to Maundi Crater, one of the best viewpoints on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
After spending time exploring the area and taking photographs, begin your descent back to Marangu Gate, where your driver will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel.
